the art of driving

okay, I admit it, I haven't been looking very hard, but a couple days ago, could have been Sunday, I was able to jot down the name of a driving school that's advertised on the side of the student driving cars.

today it dawns on me, "oh yeah! i should probably look up their rates" so I do and they seem reasonable enough. I just need the behind the wheel practice and use of the car to actually do the behind the wheel test at the DMV.

its $75 for 2 hours and $220 for 6 hours. I fairly comfortable with the actual driving and making left or right turns. What I haven’t tried is to parallel park or make a successful U-turn. I tried the u-turn in a residential area but I didn’t quite make it.

My permit expires on the 30th and to keep from having to pay that darn fee and take the written again, I kind of need to do that now. But sadly, it’s looking like come May 2nd or there after I’m going to have to do the written test over, but I’ll be able to do behind the wheel training at this driving school before my DMV behind the wheel test (and have use of the car too - at least until my mom gets a better car that I can use).

Today is also my mom's 65th birthday. she won't be mad me for telling strangers her age lol

Milestones

2:12 am
Despite getting frustrated (as of late) with my classes and the many glitches the online classroom setting has, I'm glad I'm doing this.

On September 30th I will have completed the Fundamental Level courses for my Paralegal Degree! October 1st I will more than likely start on Advanced Level courses.

This morning I got a call from financial aid to finish up the process so I’d have funding for my 2nd yr. Well he said there was some mistakes but they were minor things like changing that I live with my parents to living off campus, changing my dad’s unknown education status to high school graduate and something else I can’t remember. Then I had to do the loan process thing again...followed by a 10 question exam. I missed 2 so it’s all good. The next big hurdle is getting them a valid copy of my ID. Enter what would have been a nearly 2 hour wait at the DMV. Pass! Why such a long wait? Another office was closed so people had to go to the one I went to. And get this...they’re going to be closed again tomorrow due to the furlough crap the Governor instated. Now I have to wait until Monday, which is better as I will have been paid and won’t have to borrow the money from my mom.

We were coming back from the DMV (nearly 2 hr wait because another office was closed so I have to go back on Monday) and stopped at the cleaners when my mom asked if I wanted to drive in the parking lot because there weren't many cars. I said whatever and hoped it was too packed, but when we got there it wasn't.

I drove for about 10 or 15 minutes, parked a couple of times in open spots and practiced backing into parking spots. fun and not as nerve racking as I thought. Yes! I did it! I drove!

On the way home (we were literally across the street from the apartment) when the car stopped. my mom said the car probably overheated (its an old crappy car with a couple of bullet holes!!! in it that my dad INSISTS works like a gem) so we waited and I motioned for cars to go around. Then my dad calls and I tell him what happened and he got mad. way to make it feel like MY fault! Eventually a lady in some big truck gave my mom a push so she could park by the apartment...and now I'm home.

All at once

This morning I went to take the trash out and the big bag had this liquid on the outside of it, I smelled my hand and OMG it was pee! I think it was my cat (she’s been off lately - I blame it on her being uncomfortable because of the fleas). However it got there, it was there and I was grossed out and it needed to be cleaned up. I ended up mopping the whole kitchen floor because I was just grossed out.

Right. I got a call from the city library because back in August I applied for a temporary/part-time library aide and they were doing a pre-interview. I finished that and the man (I think his name is Fernando) said he’d call back to set up an in person interview. Cool beans! The position is 2-730 pm Monday-Thursday. I hope I get it because at $8.34/hour, that’s a good bit of money I can use in addition to what I’m getting from the Church.

The college called saying that I haven’t gone my financial aid application and if I don’t do it soon, I won’t have funds for my 2nd year. Umm I KNOW I filled out and submitted my FAFSA application! I did it a day or 2 after I filled my taxes. The rep I spoke with said I didn’t and what I probably did was give the okay for my tax information to be collected for when I do fill out the financial aid form. I didn’t want to argue with him so I was like “oh...ok”. he said either way, he would still call me at 9 am Thursday to get the ball rolling. Come tomorrow morning he will see that I have filled out and submitted my financial aid information. In fact, I did so nearly 6 months ago!

I think I’m going to go driving this evening. Lord help me I’m scared and nervous!
