Real women have curves

I’m a big woman. No I’m fat. There’s no hiding that fact. I can’t shop at Forever 21 (never have and never will), I can’t wear the sometimes cute clothes the “It” female star wear, nor would I probably want to. Damn it, I’m not a board! I have curves…in more than one place for that matter. The other day my best friend made a comment in her journal about coming across a couple of websites with clothing for “real women”…women with curves.

Apparently this offended someone who reads her journal and that person made comments (in their own journal) implying that my friend was saying she (this other girl) wasn’t a “real” woman. My friend never said that. This girl also goes on to say that she has a vagina therefore she is a woman. No one’s disputing that.

But then we get to the “meat” of the matter. This girl goes on to say that my friend implied that she was more of a woman because she has a “shapely ass”, big boobs and “meat” on her bones. MY FRIEND DID NOT SAY THAT!

In a population where there are more women who aren’t boards…don’t wear clothing labeled in the single digits, it’s HARD to find cute clothes. It’s HARD to find clothes that don’t make you look even larger than you already are.

I don’t know why this girl who made those accusations was getting bent out of shape. Did she get pissed off when Josefina Lopez wrote the play “Real Women Have Curves” or co-screenwrote the movie of the same name starring America Ferrera in 2002? I surely hope not.

Your boney hand is no match to my 264 lbs of fat! And yes, I really do weigh that much.

i secretly thank my dad for being in the Marines

Even though my dad had been out of the Marines for a good 10-15 years by the time I was born (I think he went to Vietnam once), I sometimes think he's the reason that I'm attracted to Military men, especially the Marines, and secretly, I thank him for that. I don't know if there are in pictures of him in his uniform (our old house was fire bombed twice and a lot of things were lost, including pictures), but if I find any, I'll scan and post it. He was a good looking man in his dress uniform (from pictures of pictures I've seen).

Fleet Week is my kind of Playground! I was watching CSI: NY and a Marine was killed in Central Park during Fleet Week. That got me interested in looking up when and where some Fleet Week events were being held.

Oct 8-13, 2009 in San Francisco was the only exact date I could find. I'm penciling that week as a vacation week!

I saw that San Diego, New York (duh) and Seattle all have a Fleet Week of some kind, but no dates listed. I will check back for those.

My ultimate thing, though, is to attend the Marine Corps Birthday Ball. I love playing dress up so that would be tops. But to be apart of/witness a celebration of the branch of the US Military that has been around for 233 years (234 yrs Nov 10, 2009) is wow. I want to be apart of something that big and well know.

And then there's my brother. He's been in the Air Force for 22 years (23 yrs June/July 2009). I don't come across many people in the Ari Force though. I think California is a big Marines & Army place.

Not my Country Weekly

about the only magazine I get in the mail is Country Weekly and when today's issue came there was a weird cover on it. I thought it was just the usual renewal notice cover, but upon reading it, I was saddened.

Dear Country Weekly Subscriber;

We regret to inform you that, due to marketplace conditions, Country Weekly will no longer offer subscription service after this issue.

Effective with the March 2, 2009 issue, Country Weekly will be sold at newsstands only in a new weekly format. We're excited about this new change and hope that you will pick up a copy at your local retailer.

For the remaining service of your subscription, you can select to receive one of the magazines listed below. If you are already a subscriber, your subscription will be extended based on your selection below.

We need your reply by March 31, 2009 as it will take 6-8 weeks to make the transfer to your magazine of choice. If we do not hear from you by that date, your remaining subscription will be replaced by Star Magazine.

Again, please accept our regrets for any inconvenience and our thanks for your support.

Sincerely,
Country Weekly Magazine

I wish I would have known about this (or paid better attention) before I renewed in Nov of last year! The 3 magazine choices I have are Star, National Enquirer and Shape. I'm going to choose Star Magazine and when my subscription is up in August (I believe) I won't renew again.

I'd have no problem getting Country Weekly every week if I in fact went to a store every week that sales the magazine but I don't, so I guess I'll only pick it up when I happen to go into the store.

college is for those who know what they want to do in life

I saw an ad on TV for Kaplan College. They have a paralegal program. Ohh one step closer to going to law school. I check out the college's website online and it BARELY gave me the information I wanted to know. I couldn't find any information on tuition, courses, how long the program is or anything.

About 15-20 minutes later I get a call from a rep for the school. He's talking to me and trying to figure out me and blah blah blah. Then I get a LECTURE about coming to the college to speak with someone - if I'm serious about going to school.

I'm on my cell phone talking to this man and I get disconnected. I was about to call back when he called back and leave a message saying that I really need to consider if I'm serious about school or not before I waste time and money.

THAT'S WHY I WANTED THE INFORMATION ON THE SCHOOL! I didn't want to drive an hour and a half out there to have my ass kissed by some rep to get me to go to the school! I'm not at the point where I want to go to any colleges. I WANT the information to read over myself & COMPARE to other colleges b4 going for visits.

I like doing on my own research on my own time, not scheduling something in with someone else so they can give me some rehearsed speech.

I've gotten information from USC, ASU, Pepperdine and Long Beach. I'll look back at the info from the colleges I already have info from before I call the rep from Kaplan back.

First time to Catalina Island

Two things I'd like to do while there. I'll be there for about 9 hours total, but only about 5 or 6 hours on the actual island.

There are 2 things I'd like to do: The Glass Bottom Boat or Semi-Submersible Tour.

The Glass Bottom Boat

This is one of the island's most popular excursions and it is something that the whole family can enjoy.

On this excursion you will:

² Explore the wonders of the underwater world from a state of the art, glass bottom boat.

² Listen as your guide narrates, feeds the fish and points out the different species of marine life.

² See creatures like the spectacular orange Garibaldi and the mysteriously disguised Leopard Shark in their natural habitat.

$19.00

Semi-Submersible Tour

Witness the underwater sights from a custom designed, state of the art semi-submersible vessel in the coastal waters of Catalina. This is a "premier" attraction and is exclusive to Catalina Island.

On this excursion you will:

² Feed the fish yourself from inside the vessel via the "Torpedo" button, another Catalina Island exclusive.

² Be entertained by your personal submarine guide with a special program and sound system, featuring fish and plant guide displayed on the 42 inch high definition flat screen.

² Experience this dramatic, exploratory underwater mission you can only get on the SS Nautilus.

$45.00

Both are about 45 mins long and if they aren’t at the same time, I could do both…and do a bit of land sightseeing as well.

But I’ll have to see what my money is like in a few weeks.

Fun times at Denny's

Yes, I know I should be finishing up my Kwanzaa postings, but I'm not feeling it anymore. I know I also need to finish up the friends series. Again, I'll get back to that, and probably before I finish the Kwanzaa postings.

But about Denny's.

So today was that Free Grand Slam deal at Denny's from 6 am-2 pm (aww missed going there for lunch by thatmuch lol) and amusing time w/my family (parents & sister) whilewaiting in line.

We were trying to figure out why Denny's had this special going on and my mom, bless her heart, but she can be a bit aloof at times, said "maybe a good samaritan donated food (or money?)" My dad and I looked at her and started cracking up. My dad said that maybe someone sued them and this was how Denny's had to pay, sort of like what Macy's did with the free makeup a few weeks ago. That seemed much more believable, but I didn't think so.

We get inside and we're waiting for our drink order and my dad asks the guy filling up someone's coffee why the free meals and the guy was like "Uhhh to get more customers to come. Hope you come back again!" I was snickering in the corner (but really trying to hide my face). My dad takes being funny to an extreme sometimes and it gets on my, and my mom's, nerves.

then it went from make the wait staff feel uncomfortable to joke on Lizet time. I was told, by my dad and a little by my mom, that I was unteachable, that I didn't have a childhood and that I should go to the retirement home because I have Alzheimer's Disease...all because I don't remember my childhood. Haha funny! That kind of hurt especially with them knowing that sometimes I get freaked out because I don't remember my childhood. I don't remember much of my school days either and for being 26, that's bad.

that ended, we ate and my sister went grocery shopping and my parents and I went to see how packed another Denny's was and made our way to Wal*Mart, bought some stuff and came back home.

Up next, I want to learn to knit, but I'm too impatient, so I'll stick to crocheting.
